Zukes – Mini Training Treats

We highly recommend Zukes mini dog treatsThey are small enough that you don’t over feed your puppy, but tasty enough that your Pomsky will be wanting more. These are the treats I use for training, perfect for grabbing a handful to last for 10-15 minutes in a training session.

These will get you the most bang for your buck, these are the treats I use.

Here is Zuke’s description: Perfectly sized for use as a training reward, these tasty treats let you congratulate him for a job well done whenever the timing is right. Each variety of Zuke’s Mini Naturals dog treats is made with high-quality protein, wholefood berries and savory herbs with no corn, wheat or soy, so you make your canine companion’s taste buds sing at snack time.

One of our approved breeders recommends these treats as well. Here is they had to say about Pomsky treats: For treats, the most important factor to me is size. We clicker train, and a ‘morsel’ treat for a small pomsky puppy is typically VERY small- about half the size of a lentil! Treats that are either already very small, soft enough to break up easily, and don’t crumble to treat-dust are a hit with us! Zukes Mini Naturals are one brand that we use fairly regularly, as well as freeze-dried liver and chicken breast, tiny silvers of string cheese, and canned pate-style dog food in a tube that allows us to squeeze out just a tiny lick as a reward.

Vanessa of Archangel Pomsky also recommends Zukes. Here is what Vanessa had to say about Pomsky treats:

At ArchAngel Pomskies we use Zukes mines, and pet botanicals for our main training treats, they are just the right size to do a training session.

Stewart Pro – Freeze Dried Liver

An overwhelming majority of Pomsky breeders recommend freeze dried liver treats. Pomskies go crazy for these! A lot of our members recommended Stewart Pro Freeze Dried Dog Treats.

Here is Stewart Pro description: Treat with Confidence. We are the original freeze dried treat. When it comes to treats, we know that peace of mind is important. Rest assured that our quality standards with USDA-certified ingredients ensure that you’re feeding safe dog treats. Thoughtfully Sourced and Made in the USA Our treats are locally sourced and manufactured in the heart of the Midwest under our own roof, to use with confidence under yours. Our promise to you is love and excitement in every bite.

Charles and Karen McCullough of Maine Aim Ranch Pomskies recommend dried liver treats. Here is what they said about Pomsky treats: For treats we use dried liver. You can buy it by the bucket. Pomskies love them, and its very healthy. The only down fall is when training in obedience they don’t work great because it takes too much time to chew them, so that is when we use cooked chicken breast cubed up or string cheese. That’s what works for us!

Blue Buffalo – Organic Duck Training Treats

Mckinley of Spillman’s Specialty Breeding recommends organic duck training treats.

Here is what Mckinley said about Pomsky treats:As far as treats I use a ton of different ones mainly to redirect all my fur babies from chewing on things that would not be good for them. For the puppies I use pig strips, pork rolls, bully sticks, and beef strips, these are all good redirect tools. For my adults I use pig ears, beef lung, beef strips, large bully sticks, and organic duck training treats.

Native Pet – Yak Cheese Chews

Vanessa of Archangel Pomsky recommends yak cheese for Pomsky treats, they even have Yak cheese chews!

Here is what Vanessa said about the Pomsky treats: For general chews we use yak cheese, meaty bones, and bully sticks. They last the longest and are great for the dogs and puppies alike.

Here is Native Pet’s description: Native Pet believes healthy living starts with simple nutrition. This means using only organic, human-grade ingredients, and never compromising with artificial ingredients, fillers, or preservatives. Native Pet yak chews are sourced from the foothills of the Himalayas and processed in FDA approved facilities. The best yak chews require high quality ingredients, precise manufacturing and drying methods, and specific storage temperatures. Native Pet has taken great strides to excel in each of these areas, and we hope you see the difference. To ensure quality and consistency, we’ve developed a two-step quality control process. The first step takes place with our supply partners where we’ve instituted standard procedures in quality control and manufacturing protocol. The second step occurs at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri where final inspection and packaging is done.

Dentastix are a staple in my household, I’ve used these as treats forever. Every dog I’ve ever had loves the Pedigree Dentastix.

These will keep your dog busy for a couple minutes while they chew through the big treat, plus it cleans their teeth clean! I also use these for training, you can break the sticks into small bit size pieces. Perfect for keeping my pups engaged while we are out on a walk.

Brutus & Barnaby – Dehydrated Sweet Potato Chews

This is one of my personal recommendations. These dehydrated sweet potato chews are healthy, organic, and dogs love them.

Sourced in North America these thick cut treats are ideal for a dog that would benefit from a lower fat, low glycemic index, vitamin packed treat.

RAW – REAL FOOD

A lot of Pomsky breeders recommended using real raw food in some type of shape or form. Here is what our Pomsky breeders had to say about the using various types of food as a Pomsky treat.

Here is what Tim of PomskyRus said when asked what treats he recommends for the Pomsky: Real food: cheese, popcorn, carrots. I even have some Pomskies that like bananas when i’m training.

Jessica of Prestige Pomskies said:  We dehydrate a lot of treats at home for our dogs such as liver, chicken and duck. Our dogs also like the odd cocktail sausage and hot dogs (in spring water not brine) which are excellent one off treats for them. Hard boiled eggs also go down a treat or in the summer we feed eggs in the shell uncooked in the garden, or cracked over their food if avoiding mess!

There are lots of great options for raw treats made with real food (or you can do it yourself). You can checkout the top recommendations on Amazon here

One of the better treats that I have found that my Pomsky ULF really likes is the Wild Bites Chicken Recipe (Blue metallic bag) training treat which is part of the Blue Buffalo Blue Wilderness Trail Treats. These treats are big enough that you can break one in half and it satisfies your pup until he gets the other half therefore doubling your amount of treats, hence more rewards for more training.
